Valve leak causes brine spill in Williams County

ALAMO, N.D. -- A valve leak caused about 500 barrels, or 21,000 gallons, of brine to spill Monday at a saltwater disposal well in Williams County in far northwest North Dakota, according to a statement released from the North Dakota Oil and Gas Division on Tuesday.

Crescent Point Energy U.S. Corp. reported the spill at a saltwater disposal well about 6 miles southwest of Alamo. The brine, a waste byproduct of oil production, was contained on the well site and cleanup is underway, the company reported.

A state inspector has been to the location and will monitor additional cleanup.
