Fire burns quonset near East Grand Forks
Crews battled a fire Thursday just north of East Grand Forks that filled the sky with dark smoke for most of the afternoon.
The blaze started around 3:15 p.m. in a quonset on Minnesota Highway 220. Firefighters still were at the scene as of 7 p.m.
The family was home when the fire started and called 911. Crews said the blaze was mostly contained to the attic and rafter areas before the building collapsed. No injuries were reported.
"What we're worried about right now is any spark or embers going up into the vegetation because we are near some crop land right now," Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Anderson said. "So we're just watching that so nothing else spreads at this time."
The quonset is considered a total loss. It's unclear what was inside or what the total cost of the damages will be.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
