Big smiles for boys' first walleyes

Kai (left) and Riku Pasch of Grand Forks, ages 11 and 9 respectively, each caught their first walleyes Memorial Day weekend during a family excursion to Gimli, Man., on the west shore of Lake Winnipeg. According to their dad, Timothy Pasch, who shared the photos, the boys caught the fish from a fishing pier, where anglers were catching pike and walleyes -- or “pickerel,” as people call them in Manitoba -- all weekend. “This was an incredibly exciting time for them!” Timothy Pasch said of his sons. “The fishing there was spectacular.” Click on the image to see the complete photos.

Brad Dokken is a reporter and editor of the Herald's Sunday Northland Outdoors pages. Dokken joined the Herald company in November 1985 as a copy editor for Agweek magazine and joined the Herald staff in 1989.
