Haying opportunity available at Rydell National Wildlife Refuge
There's an opportunity to bid on haying up to 84 acres on four different fields in August on Rydell National Wildlife Refuge.
Haying the fields is a management tool to remove existing vegetation to reduce the litter layer, stimulate new growth and remove young woody vegetation. This is done in an effort to maintain as much open grassland as possible for waterfowl and other ground-nesting birds.
Bids are due Wednesday, July 11. Interested people can ask questions or get a copy of the bid package mailed to them by contacting Gregg Knutsen, refuge manager, at (218) 687-2229 ext. 16, (218) 686-4329 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org. The bid package also is posted on the Rydell website at www.fws.gov/refuge/rydell and can be picked up directly at the refuge office, 17788 349th St. SE, Erskine, Minn.
