Events

Park vehicle passes are required for all events at North Dakota and Minnesota state parks. Vehicle passes are $7 daily and $35 annually in both states.

• July 14: Archery in the Park, 1 to 3 p.m., Hayes Lake State Park, 15 miles south of Roseau, Minn., on state Highway 89 and 9 miles east on Roseau County Road 4. Program is free with state park vehicle permit, and all equipment is provided. Info: (218) 425-7504.

• July 21: Third annual Youth Fishing Day, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Rydell National Wildlife Refuge, 17788 349th St. SE, Erskine, Minn. Free event targeted toward youth age 15 or younger. Fishing

• July 21: Catfish tournament, headquarters at boat ramp in Pembina, N.D. Check-in begins at 9 a.m., with fishing hours from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Entry fee $30 per person with a two-person minimum per team. • July 28-29: Cats Incredible Catfish Tournament, LaFave Park, East Grand Forks. Rules meeting at 7 p.m. July 27 at tournament headquarters; fishing hours from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 28-29. Brad Dokken

Brad Dokken is a reporter and editor of the Herald's Sunday Northland Outdoors pages. Dokken joined the Herald company in November 1985 as a copy editor for Agweek magazine and joined the Herald staff in 1989. He worked as a copy editor in the features and news departments before becoming outdoors editor in 1998.  A Roseau, Minn., native, Dokken is a graduate of Bemidji State University.
