Shelby Frank of Grand Forks Red River has been named North Dakota's 2017-18 Gatorade girls track and field high school athlete of the year.

As a sophomore this spring, Frank was a double winner at the North Dakota Class A state track and field meet, winning the shot put and discus. It was her third consecutive state discus championship. Frank's season-best throw of 160 feet ranked 16th in the country among high school discus competitors this spring at the time of her selection.

The Gatorade award recognizes not only athletic excellence but also academic achievement and character demonstrated off the track. Frank has a 3.58 grade-point average and has volunteered her time as a youth track coach and as part of multiple community service initiatives through her church.

Levi Rockey of Bismarck Century was named the state's Gatorade boys track and field athlete of the year.
