Recreational marijuana supporters, foes release first ads

FARGO — While Legalize ND released its first advertisement of its campaign to legalize recreational marijuana in the state, another group opposing the measure started a billboard campaign this week as the election season is heating up.

The 15-second Legalize ND ad has been released online.

“As we approach the final homestretch, Legalize ND knows the importance of getting our message out. The results of this measure will be ultimately determined by which side of this measure turns out more North Dakotans to vote on November 6th. This web ad is our opening salvo as we seek to educate voters about the importance of voting yes on Measure 3 on Election Day,” said group adviser Cole Haymond.

Meanwhile, a billboard campaign was launched by a group called Healthy and Productive North Dakota Against Measure 3.

The billboards were put up in high-traffic areas in Fargo and Bismarck.

Organizers said the signs highlight the “realities of targeting children with pot infused edibles and no potency limits on marijuana under the ballot measure.

“North Dakota has a big decision to make in the next month that will have lasting impact on our state. We are working to educate voters on the realities and consequences of legalizing recreational marijuana,” said Kristie Spooner, chairwoman of the group. “We need to learn from other states that have had real consequences including out of control drugged driving and the targeting of children with colorful marijuana edibles.”
